San Jose, Costa Rica Airport Receives Major Technological Upgrade with SITA/Hiperwall Visual Command

Jul 12, 2017 1:21:00 AM

Juan Santamaria International Airport is installing a SITA supplied integrated airport control center – utilizing a Hiperwall visualization system that will enable the integration of information from a variety of airport operational systems.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – IRVINE, CA - July 12, 2017
- To ensure that critical information readily flows between its new control center and airport operational teams, Juan Santamaria International Airport (SJO) decided on a major technological upgrade with the adoption of an integrated airport control center utilizing SITA’s Hiperwall-enabled ControlBridge Platform. The new ControlBridge-powered control center will provide a centralized and integrated management platform for all airport operations from security and boarding gates to ground handling and facilities management. The system will also increase effective communication and enable collaborative decision making between all field operations.

SITA, a global information technology provider to the air transport industry, now includes the Hiperwall video wall solution as the critical visualization component of their ControlBridge Platform. Nick Gates, SITA Portfolio Director, believes the Hiperwall, Inc. mission naturally compliments with that of SITA ControlBridge. “SITA ControlBridge Platform Services is all about using software to disrupt the traditional hardware approach of control center computing and visualization platforms. The hardware agnostic approach enabled by the Hiperwall software aligns perfectly with this mission and is therefore now a strategic enabler within our value proposition.”

SITA selected the Hiperwall visualization system for their ControlBridge Platform to assist in integrating all existing but disparate systems at an airport, achieving 24/7 fault tolerant reliability, enabling safe operations and creating scalability for future growth. Wayne Matrose, SITA Senior Product & Business Development Manager, believes that the Costa Rica project is a catalyst for numerous airport control center deployments involving ControlBridge and Hiperwall in the not-to-distant future “Integrated airport command and control is not just a trend, it is a reality. To serve this real and immediate need of our Air Transport Industry, within the SITA ControlBridge Platform, the Hiperwall software provides the visualization of common situational awareness and over-arching Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to the multi-stakeholder occupants of the modern airport control center. What sets the Hiperwall software apart is the remarkable video compression and decompression which enables superior video wall performance on commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) hardware, and therefore lowers the total cost of entry and ownership.”

SITA’s ControlBridge solution, including the Hiperwall video wall provides fit-for-purpose control center technology that facilitates enhanced functionality for airports of any size with nearly any budget. The SITA ControlBridge and Hiperwall solution is a single, scalable platform that unites existing control and facility management systems and accommodates future expansion.
